Adirondack Excursion

Hi all,
Just got back from a weekend trip to the Adirondacks. Spent the time up at
my buddy's camp off Lake Sacandaga. I've been on numerous trips in the Q (89
200), the longest being a run to New Orleans two years ago. This trip offered
an opportunity for comparison because my kid brother drove up my car, an 91
golf.
"Hold your Horses!" I can hear the echo sound across Audi-lands around the
world. "You can't compare a Audi with a VW!" Well, I did. Most of my driving
time was spent in the Q, but I noticed that the VW seemed more enjoyable to
drive on the twisties. It had this fun-loving attitude reminding me of a
playful puppy. The Q on the other hand felt much more sedate and mature, and
getting to feel a bit cranky when pushed.
It was an enjoyable weekend though. The most memorable Audi experience
happened while filling up at a gas station in Lake Placid. We were waiting for
the clerk to brew up some fresh coffee. A guy approaches me and starts talking
to me about the cars. Says he just lost his old rabbitt and was given (!!) a
quattro recently. It was in street running condition but in need of various
little tid-bits. It was nice talking to him and I congratulated him on his
aquisition. I gave him Linda's number and wished him luck.
Talking to him made me look forward to this upcoming NE Outing at Lime
Rock even more. There is something about talking to a fellow enthusiast which
just brings an deep feeling of happiness. I look forward to meeting many of you
there and hope that a few of you who weren't going to come reconsider. It
should be a blast.
Anyway.. back to the twisties: The car tended to roll and wallow much
more than I would have liked. I know that the front struts were recently
replaced with OE. The rears are in bad shape though. This cannot be on the
priority list right now for repairs, but if anybody has something to say about
their experiences with struts.. I'm all ears. The VW and the Q both need them.
It was a great weekend; hiking, boating, and enjoying the company of
friends in a great setting. Having the Q and the VW up there made it even
better. Happy motoring!
