Re: odometer repair
-- [ From: human * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] --
I've fixed a couple. there's a white nylon (?) gear on the shaft that goes
thru the number dials and it slips. Sometimes it cracks. My coupe's would
only slip when warm (9000 miles in the winter, 1000 in the summer!) I fixed
*that* one by getting a 120 mph speedo used from Shokan for $75? $90? and
altering it's odo reading to match what mine would have been...
If your gear is not to badly cracked a fix is to dismantle the odo train by
pushing out the shaft a bit, and abrading the shaft so it doesn't slip in
the gear. This is real tricky detail work, but hey, it's free, and it
doesn't hurt anything.
