Glenn,

As a whole, I wouldn't be too concerned about the noise. My GT ran fine
for over two years (about 45K miles) with low oil pressure to the head,
resulting in a _constant_ tapping noise from under the hood. I found
later that one of the oil sprayer head that was designed to lube the
shaft of the vacuum pump had "disappeared!"

I solved this by simply tapping the hole and plugging it since I had
long ago removed the shaft from that pump in an effort to eradicate the
noise. Two synth oil changes and about 2.5K miles later, there was no
more noise, and the engine purred along like new. At about 175K miles I
might add! (I know, I know, it's only a young'un)

I will admit to having tried most of the methods of eradicating lifter
noise that people have mentioned. Marvel Mystery Oil, STP Oil
additives, synth oil, semi-synth, dino juice, combinations of the
above. (Please don't pick on me for the first two, my next step was
going to be hiring an exorcist because I was sure the spirit of some
ancient Tongan drummer was trapping in my engine!)

FYI, I now run Mobil1 15W-50 year round and the car is a very happy
camper indeed.

HTH!
