'87 4000 Questions

New and very enthusiastic owner of Audi quattros:

Question regarding my Audi '87 4000 Quattro.  I bought one of those "as seen
on TV" kits for oil and the like.  One of the bottles is for transmissions.
 Having a manual trannie like my 4000, do I ever need to add/change
transmission oil???  In the manual, it says that there is no need to ever
change the transmission oil.  Is that right and if so possible?????  If so,
this stuff for the transmission is throw away material.

Secondly, after a little four wheeling a couple of months ago, the cardboard
material which protects my radiator in the front right part of the car came
off.  First, how important is that piece of cardboard?  Second, is it worth
it to replace?  Third, how much should it cost here in the San Fran Bay
Area???
