Zipped Quattro
I don't know if this is of any interest, but as a recent Quattro list
member, I found the mail volume a little overwhelming. I wrote a little
Perl script that accumulates 200K of Quattro messages (about 2-3 days
worth), compresses the collection into a ZIP file, and mails it.
I've found this easier to deal with than the "raw" list (many fewer messages
in my In box) and quicker to download (the Q list compresses about 70%...
what that says about us, I'm not sure <g>)--the typical ZIP is about 50K. I
know, I know, there's a Digest, but it's still much bigger than the Zip
files and comes more often.
Anyway, it would be trivial for me to tell the script to mail these ZIP
files to other people if that is of interest, or I can send you the script
if you want to use it yourself (command line UNIX required!). Someday, it
might even be worth installing something like this on the listserve... a
compressed Digest would save a _lot_ of bandwidth.
E-mail me if you're interested,
Mike N.
