Hello Frank, sorry to hear about your problems with the a/c.  I fixed a
similar problem with my Audi Coupe Q: the recirculation flap would never open
to recirc the air, and as strange result, the air would swith between defrost
and center vents when accelerating.  I found that i was getting adequate
vacum by running vacum lines to my audi 90, my car had enough vacum to trip
the 90's flap--so it wasn't a vacum leak.  SOOOO, it was the flap that was
stuck. I found that if i gave the flap a little push, it would trigger and
open the recirc flap.  TO fix this (if you could call it that), i tie-wraped
a small peice of pvc pipe so that the flap never closes completely--it will
always draw a little air out of the cabin when you are not on "LOW" temp
setting.  by raising the flap 1/2 inch, it now always works like it supposed
to, and my car drives around very cold in this florida heat!
