I know _nothing_ of the QCUSA. This letter forms a convenient framework for
me to describe a few obvious differences that I see, and some problems that
may arise with increased foreign membership of the UK club.

Nah. We currently use the "bear pit" approach at the Annual General Meeting.
Any member wishing to stand for office has to be nominated and seconded by two
other members. The nominations are closed during the AGM, votes taken, and the
one that gets the most gets the job. If the AGM wishes to vote the entire
committee out of office on a whim, it has the power to do so. It did, in early
1995. There is, at present, no specific provision for postal or online
nomination, but no ban either, and there's nothing in the rules that says you
have to wait for an AGM to nominate. Ergo, three US members could get together
to nominate and second the third for office as soon as they get their
membership numbers, and the next AGM would _have_ to vote on that nomination.

Ours is a one-page income statement and a one-page balance sheet. You want to
see it all, you ask the treasurer. All members are entitled to do this.

We _don't_ do this, but perhaps we should. Anyone who's interested enough
to attend might be stupid^H^H^H^H^H^Hinterested enough to volunteer for
office themselves. For the record, the next committee meeting is on 20 October
1996, "somewhere near Worcester". I don't recommend the committee meetings
unless you're a terminal insomniac - the last one spent two hours discussing
the precise positioning of the logo on the club jacket.
