Thanks!  I just called them, and they said two things:

1.  Forget what the dealer said.  Even if the car is brand new, you
must use HDC before applying the wax or it won't "stick".  The surface
must be absolutely clean.

2.  They don't recommend the use of a buffer with any of their
products.

Now I'll have to get my hands on a bottle of HDC.
