Ola Unka Bart and all,

I couldn't resist the thread on 928 cylinder bores, so this is what the manual
sez:

"The crankcase upper section consists of an aluminum alloy, containing minute
particles of pure silicon. To reach a useable cylinder surface, the cylinder
bores must be machines in such a manner that the silicon particles protrude
out of the aluminum."

book: Engine, page 13-25

It then goes on to tell of the procedure to reach a suitable mating surface
for the pistons by using such and such honing stone. Pretty cool, really.
There is no mention of iron liners anywhere.

later,
bill
