V-4

The SAAB V-4 was originally a German Ford (Taunus) design. SAAB needed a 4
stroke -real-soon-now- in about 1970 because they knew the little 3 cyl 2
stroke wasn't going to pass US emissions requirements much longer.

I had a 72 Saab Sonnett with that engine - and had to pull it out to replace
the clutch - 90 cubic inches (I think - don't remember) and quite small -
narrow angle 60 degree V - blankety-blank thing weighed a TON!!!! had to
rent a cherry picker to get it out!

The 215 inch aluminum V-8 (Buick-Olds-Pontiac - early 60s) was indeed sold
to the Brits, who used it in the Rover, the MG-C (I think) and lots of other
stuff. There's a guy in Arizona who built an airplane around one - called
the "Prowler", two seats, 215 MPH or thereabouts - it's a kit.

Now for some Audi content: The newer Chrysler V-6 engines (not the
Mitsubishi boat anchors) make about 200 + hp, and are light and compact.
Fuel injection, turbo available, INEXPENSIVE, parts anywhere - good
transplant for an older 5000 with a dead 5 cyl??? Just a (heretic) thought,
ya know?

Best,
