When I upgraded to an "S4" turbo for my UrQ, I think the new turbo was
$1000 ($2000 from Audi...), and about another $700 or so for new oil
and water plumbing components. Then we start talking about all the 
rubber air hoses. Then you segue into exhaust manifolds. Watcha gonna
do about the pistons? And cooling same? (turbo engines have little
oil jets to spray oil onto the underside of the pistons to help cool
them...) How about new exhaust valves to handle the heat? exhaust sys-
tem to handle the extra gas flow? Fuel system to flow all the extra
gas? An ECU to handle the turbo engine? Just "chipping" seems to go
for $500-$1000 for Audis.

$3000 sounds hopelessly optimistic to me, to do a good job, with new
(or as-new) components. Especially if you have to pay for the labor.
