So, I arrive at the Audi dealer to pick up my car after being serviced for a
radiator fan not working (see previous posts) and while walking out the door
with a big smile on my face for only being $62.00 poorer, I hear,
"Ken! Hi! How are you?"
I looked up and saw Melissa (a.k.a. Missy) standing there. I escorted Missy
to her senior prom 12 years ago and haven't really stayed in touch that
much. We did the usual small talk, "So how are you? What are you doing
here? etc." when she offered to introduce me to a salesperson who she said
would "take care of me".
I've been on the fence about buying a new Audi, however, my 1990 200 Turbo
is starting to show signs of its age and things are starting to break. If I
could get a new Audi at a good price, I'd do it in a second.
She took me over to Tom the salesman and I explained that I was only at the
dealer to pick up a car for service and I really wasn't actively shopping
and I also didn't have that much time. I told him I was very familiar with
Audi's and I was a current owner of one. I told him my present Audi was my
second (I also had a 1987 5000 CST) and I'll probably be an Audi owner for
life. The only thing we had to discuss was price.
He cut right to the chase,
"We only have two A4 Quattro's left and they've been sellling like
hotcakes. We'll only discount them $500 off of sticker price.
"We have about a half dozen A6 Quattro's left and we'll take $3000 off
the sticker price.
"We have about a dozen A6 FWD left and we'll take $5000 off the sticker
price on any of them.
"We have a couple demo cars and we'll take an additional .15 per mile
for any mileage in addition to the previous discounts. "
So there it is. I can't imagine I can do much better than that. I'm
leaning towards an A6 FWD. It looks like I can do an A6 for under 30K.
I'll give Missy a call tonight with a few questions. I'd feel a lot more
comfortable if she said it was the best deal I could get.
Anyone out there negotiate more than 5000 off the sticker for an A6. I'd
love to hear about it.
Regards,
Ken Gorman
