By flickering, do you mean that it will randomly come on and just as randomly go out?
My S4 does this. They blame a sensor in the brake reservoir. There is a second one on
order for me (warrantee!...hmmm is that Audi ownerese for Yipee?)

Subject: Low pentosin == flickering brake light?
Still working on diagnosing my flickering brake light, which I
was getting down to being a dying bomb. However, today I noticed
that my pentosin is about 0.5-1.0" below the "min" mark on the
reservoir. Could this be it? I have noticed that it is related
to acceleration; sloshing fluid?
I'm going to stop somewhere tomorrow to top off the reservoir.
