Coupe Brake Upgrade
Dear All
I have just replaced the front 9.4" solid rotors on my 81 coupe with 10.1"
drilled and slotted ventilated Brembo's. I also had to replace the
calipers with scirocco 16V units (used from Campbell Nelson in Seattle)
and also fitted stainless steel hoses and metal master pads.
The braking is totally transformed !!!!. This is a totally cool conversion
and really easy to do. The only hard part of the procedure is getting the
old rotors off.
My only concern now is that the pedal moves about half way down its stroke
to fully operate the brakes - I assume this is due to the increased piston
area in the 16V calipers compared to the original coupe items. Has anyone
else out there done this conversion and did you alter the master cylinder
to a bigger one ? I do realize that this will however alter the rear
braking and possibly causing lockup. Mabe the only answer is to fit a
front/rear bias valve and a bigger master cylinder. ANY IDEAS ??????
Thanks in advance
Rob
