Re: 3rd gear doin' the grind



John,
try sincronizing revs as close as you can when you switch into third, see if 
the grind goes away then. If it does, I vote for fried syncro as well. 
Also try double declutching (pressing clutch, taking out of 2nd, 
4th...whatever, relesing clutch, pressing clutch again and then shifting 
into 3rd, but you probably knew it anyway), and see if it goes away then.
