radio needs replacement

Hi everyone,
The radio of my '90 90q20v has been acting up for several months.  
The "balance" of the rear channels often kicks out on me.  In the 
past 2 days, the LED bulb is also gone, ie: no illumination on the 
display window.
Does anyone know is this an easily fixable problem or it is better 
off to replace it ?
If I have to replace it, I like to upgrade the quality (power) of the 
radio/cass.   I understand if I use "Delta" brand of radio, it will 
send radio information to the central display on the dash.
Question, are they good radios ?
Would I be better off buying a good quality and high power unit from 
a local auto-radio store ?
