The Valentine in the UBERWGN is mounted above the mirror, just as you
describe. Very nice installation, power from the overhead light, no
messy wires, no impact on visibility, or interference with visors.
Almost invisible from outside the car, and the detector has a good view
out the rear as well.
In practice, I get unbelievably early warnings on the road. Maybe the
valentine is so sensitive that even with a bit of interference from the
window tint it still performs quite acceptably.
Unfortunately, in my installation, the laser detector's receptor is
probably blocked by the top edge of the mirror, which the back edge of
the detector abuts. Not too important, since they don't use laser
around here (Chicago) hardly at all.
