1) I too have the Valentine mounted at the top of the windshield
behind the tint strip. The range is far better than any other
detector I've ever used. Also, no indication the police have ever
seen it when stopped, which is something to consider.
2) The Beartracker can be very useful, but you have to remember
that it will only alert if you are near a police car AND the
dispatcher transmits (it searches for the little repeater in the
police cars). I occasionally drive by CHP cars without an alert,
but more often than not, it goes off first. It's definitely not a great
scanner, but the CHP alert has proven useful many times. You
can pick them up for under $100 from Damark. FYI, I'm told that
the Calif. HP, along with other states, is going to 900mhz
frequencies, which the original Beartracker can't receive. Don't
know if the new one listens to those freqs as well.
