My '85 5000s 5cyl. 5speed (just enjoy those 5-s) averaged 35mpg on the 
interstate @85mph in 5th from Philly to Chicago. I could not believe my 
eyes. No quattro, no turbo, no auto. Tires were also 185/70/14. It was a 
live testimony to that famous aerodynamic issue of a cd being only 0.3.

When I replaced it with my current '89 200TQ what a sobering suprise that 
was! I am lucky to get 22mpg crawling around town. On the interstate, during 
a banzai run, the mileage drops to 17mpg. This red monster is always thirsty 
for gas. 
Its not that I am missing that '85, though...
