RE: A4Q owner update
Has anyone added on a CD changer (besides the dealer Alpine unit) to the
>BOSE system? Not the RF modulated type hookup.
Good luck here!
dan_masi@mentorg.com pointed me to the following:
I had been following the progress of a company, Precision
Interface Electronics, that was developing an adapter for
the A4. I stopped calling them in June, when I convinced
my dealer to toss in the CD changer for free (my car took
4 months to get here, 3.5 months longer than promised...)
Anyway, you might want to give them a call and ask if they
are selling the adapter yet. 1-800-526-8590.
I called the above # about a week ago and the person I spoke to was
interested to know how I got her number (?!?), and when I said, "Oh,
from someone on the internet" this was met by some laughter. Being that
the Alpine 601 (which _is_ the audi oem unit without the electronic mods
to make it work with the bose stero) costs ~$380, and the adapter (if it
ever is available, im guessing another 4 months at best) will run you
another $100 (yes!), go with the audi oem unit. I just called Clair Audi
in Boston (800-354-5100), and they quoted me $495 + $35 for mounting
bracket, and more importantly, the Audi unit is then covered under your
A4's warranty.
