It's hard to see what Audi would gain from F1 participation just as an engine 
supplier.  Their competitive advantage has long been in drive train and 
suspension technology.  Even as a chassis builder, the F1 rules would allow 
them little room.  No AWD, no active suspension, no traction control, etc. - 
all the things Audi is good at.

The same thing has been true of rallying, touring cars, etc. - the only way to 
stop Audi winning is to change the rules.
