Help w/ querying the list archives

I've been trying to look for some stuff in the archives and have a couple
questions.  

1. How come I get a bunch of responses that say "Document not available"?  For
example, if I search on "cv joint", I get some relevant hits plus a bunch of Doc
not available.

2. It's very painful to browse through the archives, even with a T1 connection
to the net.  The files, such as quattro.9609, are really big and take way long
to load into MS Internet Explorer (no, the T1 is not dedicated just to me).
Plus MS IE often (well, always) chokes when I try to do a Find on the page.
Argg.

If there's something obvious that I'm missing, please point me in the right
direction.  If the archives need some work to make searching a bit easier, I'd
be interested in volunteering some of my time to help.  Geeez, did I really say
volunteer?  I figure the list has saved me so much time and $$$, that I ought to
give something back.
