Holey Headlights Batman

Hi Folks,

 Somewhere on my cross continental journey my right front headlight   
managed to find either a rock or a very solid dragonfly.  I've now got a   
pinhole....OK, a knitting needle hole in the lens.  Being on a camping   
trip the temporary repair with a cut patch from the tent repair kit has   
held up well.
 Has any body attempted to use a glass/windshield type filler to repair   
this sort of damage?  If so, how'd it go?  What product did you use?
 Please help, I'm not up for a new lens purchase and would really like to   
remove the tent repair kit piece.  It's just a little funky and   
definately not cool!
