I highly doubt it. The stock resistor dissipates horrendous power. It is
nothing but a pair of dumb ballast resistors , 0.2 ohm and 0.7ohm in series.
I wonder why Audi chose such a crude approach instead of using, say,
thyristors.
When it happened to my 5000, I just drilled the rivets out and separated
the angles that comprise the body. Inside there is a sandwich of Mica, NiCr
resistor, shaped like a comb and one more layer of Mica. One strip of that
"comb" is usualy broken. The repair is easy, just cut a square metal patch
approx 10mm x 10mm (I used pure Ni because it is solderable, although Cu or
brass would probably do just fine). You will need to braze the patch to the
brake in the "comb" with some silver solder. In my lab I have a tiny
"juvellers" torch used for fabrication of the custom scientific apparatus,
it makes brazing a snap. Rivet the repaired sandwich back together and
voila! you just saved youself $115. The repaired resistor still workes on my
old 5000s (4 years later).
