Hi Andrew and all,
I just came back from Sweden and was checking for lights (as well as a
bomb) to my 1989 100 E, but decided to stall the project due to cost. New
lights is Sweden are 2,400 SEK (appr 380 USD) and since I only use this
great car as a commuter I decided against it.
However, I Germany or on a junk yard in Holland you should be able to find
a good pair for much less.
I was surprised to see the amount of Audis on the streets of Stockholm
(have been gone for way too long now), so if I had had more time, I would
have ventured further with this project, since OEM and used parts are
readily available, once you start searching.
There is such a difference in the Euro lights and US lights so a simple
(bolt-on) switch is a great idea if you're driving a lot. Audi lights in
the US essentially sucks.
BUT, almost all Swedish Audi 100s are equipped with Hella driving lights in
addition. A large number of Audis in late 80ies and early 90ies were sold
as company cars and they were loaded since the "extra" cost of all the
"goodies" was really manageable for the driver.
