Snows

I've been trying to follow the thread on snow tires recently. The Continental
Ecos are NOT going to cut it this winter for Mom's new A6. Especially with the
wicked upstate winters and country roads that she drives on here.

I knew that all-seasons are essentially a bad solution to seasonal tires.
So.. none of that. I think I've come across 3 names that stick in my mind from
the list: Nokias NRWs, Michelin Alpins, and Hakkas.

I would like to not use the Audi-wheels and purchase a set of steel wheels for
the winter time. I've had a good experience with the Tire Rack, but they don't
seem to carry these types of snows. I am kind of reluctant to call a shop in WI
that I've never heard about before.

Noise isn't really a factor. Price is a factor. The tires don't have to have
stud capability but I can't see why not, so that's a plus. Tires with
micro-pore technology aren't a good idea because.. well.. we're not talking
vermont here. There will be quite a bit of Asphalt driving.. and after a year
of wear we'll probably end up with a cruddy all season tire because the
micro-pores are worn off. So.. the Blizzaks don't sound wise.

So what I'm looking for is real snow-tires from a reputable company at a
respectable price. Any suggestions?
