sputtered and died

So the 875KCSTQ ran fine this morning.  I'm leaving work and, go several 
hundred yards, and it sputters and dies.  Restarts, though a little hard, and 
does the same thing.  Two more tries and I'm into a car parts store parking 
lot.  Now it will start, idle a while and then die.

My guess is Fuel Filter.  In fact I had the parts store order me one.  It will 
be here in a couple hours so I thought I should log on and check my diagnosis 
with the experts while I wait.

Is this going to get me going again or is it time to call a tow?
