thems the breaks with brakes

h'audi gang,
well friday afternoon my wife took the 5kcdtq out and when she returned ,
informed me that there was a noise from the left rear when braking. this is
good, years ago she would have turned up the stereo. ( in the 60's she once
drove my chebby van home from an oil change to tell me that it didn't run
well and made a lot of noise) she was younger then and didn't always check
things like oil pressure gauges. turns out the oil was still on the floor of
the oil change place in unopened cans. hmmmmmm. bak to the audi content,
when i got this car a few months ago i also received all the service
records. the last 6 all mention a noise in the left rear , and the last two
did a brake check and reported only 25% wear on the pads.ie 75% left. an
outside visual showed that to be accurate. i pulled the wheel after jacking
the car and using axle stands. aha the inner pad was GONE. i pulled the
caliper and found that the it was siezed up solidly.the guide pins for the
movable part wouldnt budge. luckily for me i have a pretty good machine
shop. and the freeing up and cleaning wasn't too difficult.then i had to get
new pads. the went on much easier when i found out how to retract the
piston. luckily my lada(with momo steering wheel igor) also uses a 12mm
allen key. so the one side took about 3 hours.... the other about 20mins.
and idid check and clean the guide pins. ain't experience wonderful.
