Noisy suspension - Advice please !

I've got a suspension problem with my 87 Coupe Quattro and I wonder if
anybody has experienced anything like it. 
When taking up drive or on overrun the from near side suspension makes a
'banging' noise. Having looked at the manual it suggests that this noise
is caused by a worn CV joint (outer). When turning and using the power
some very loud noises are emitted from the from near side suspension  (I
thought the drive shaft had snapped !) This may also be the CV join but
I don't know - dose anybody have any leads ?
Also (this matter may or may not be related) the Quattro seem to steer
from the back when it hits some bumps which is a bit worrying ! (I know
the tracking is out at the front by 2 degrees)

Any comments would be helpful !
