Chris - I feel your pain!!; I've had to to fix numerous 'check engine'
lights in my '88 90q before..
Shot in the dark - disconnect the electrical plug that goes to your
idle/full throttle switch. See if your 'check engine' light goes away.
Sometimes those switches get flaky and confuse the ECU. You'll get a
diagnostic for the switches being offline but it'll be interesting to see if
it eliminates your other code or 'check' lamp.
Another possibility - ECU temp sensor is _right_. Are you on the verge of
overheating? The ECU will give a warning (and flash the 'check' light) when
it detects the water temp getting too high for its liking (and it doesn't
like it too much above normal). Fan/radiator/relay/thermoswitch problem maybe?
These are somewhat long shots, although they have fixed some of my problems
in the past. E-mail/call if you want to discuss further, I can go on for
hours on these problems!!!......SLM
