oil cooling add on?

that reminds me, I've been thinking of trying to add some kind of
thermostatic oil cooling to my na coupe.  would like to send oil through a
heat exchanger if it's over, say 120 C.  perhaps with a valve for manual
opening to drain/clean exchanger.  Anyone do this?  do the oil filter mount
type tap systems I see in JC Whitney work well?  How about the thermo part 
(I really don't want to cool my oil when its not necessary...do I?)  BTW I
have room where my AC compressor used to be...
