Although I was fortunate not to own an automatic Audi, I think I know the common 
problem with their transmissions second hand (make it times 3).

There is a seal(s) between the gear box and the final drive. The gear box is 
filled with ATF whereas the final drive-with Hypoid oil. Arter several years of 
service the rubber hardens and the seal starts to leak fluids. ATF goes into the 
final drive and Hypoid goes into the gearbox. Yak! multiply that by the weather 
and/or temperature cycles.
