Jim,
I had a Porsche 924, and the rumor you heard is true. The same engine was
used in the Audi 100, a VW van, and the AMC Gremlin (yuck!). As a matter of
fact, VW-Audi even built the early 924's (and some 944's) as well. My father
had a Dodge Omni that had a VW 1.8. Even had the VW/Audi logo cast into the
cylinder head. Wouldn't surprise me at all if other Chrysler products had
VW/Audi engines.
