Orange digital dash - bulb replacement

The rev counter/computer display backlight bulb has gone in my digital dash.  
The microfiche contains only Teutomic twaddle about the previous (green) 
display, which appears to be _completely_ different in construction.

The grain of wheat bulbs at the back have nothing to do with it, it would 
appear.  There must be bulbs _inside_ the unit.

Is this so, what type are they, and how do I get at 'em?
