Which Car? / AWD v. Rear
In response to question re: Which car to buy 5k, 200, V8.
While this is personal pref, IF you can find a pristine 5tq, it
is the easiest / cheapest to get the most HP. While I love my 89 200w,
the compression ratio [higher] makes things a little funny when trying to
upgrade. I drove several 91 200's, before stealing the car I now drive,
and, while I loved them all, the price difference made no sense for me.
With the STEADI kit and car, I've got less than 8 large in the 89 wag.
When I spend the next 2-3, it will outperform the 91's that had asking
prices of 14-20. 'course, the 91's are factory sweet. V8 was nice, but
not for me.
Mucho debate on AWD v Rear [Audi v BMW] of late. While topic has
pretty well been debated in and out, couple of thoughts. First, I will
always own a quattro. Just love the car for my driving. However, after
watching a Ligenfelter Pontiac flat whip the ass of a 911t AWD in the
dry--at the track [road course], the picture, to me, is blurred on
advantages on dry pavement. BTCC is a bit different picture. Fact is,
none of us can duplicate the beautiful package on those winning A4Q's.
Sorry to say, BMW does have a far superior trickle down performance setup
[M] than does Audi--at least here in America. If, the A4TQ can give 300+
reliable HP, let 'em do it from the factory with a warranty. I'll be one
of the first to buy. Here is one guy that is very disappointed in AoA.
IMHO, the Audi Q stands alone with what it has, but the new ones are
sooooo underpowered.
