i would be more interested in the longest continuously running race (with       
two obvious worldwide asterisks that i didn't mention because they were         
"obvious") than in the longest still run (with a significant gap somewhere      
in the middle)                                                                  
i think you will find that NO race has been truly continuous for > 50 years.
