Good question. In addition, I recall from some time ago when I bought the cb,
that I was told there was away to "tune" the antennae for optimum performance.
Since I have absolutely no knowledge on these matters, I hope somebody on the
list can clear this up. 

As for the Kanc run, I think even the weakest short-range Cb would be adequate.
