Re: Windshield woes
Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago my 1988 80's windshield had an encounter with a
fast-moving rock. The rock won. The windshield was replaced by a mobile
fitter (CarGlass)-the largest here in Holland. The invoice said about equiv
$350 total. The part was original Audi, straight from the dealer, tinted,
tinted strip at the top...
Insurance picked up the bill, didn't even cost me my NCB (provided I let
the CarGlass guy do it- there was a deduction for alternative fitters)
Due to the high mileage my old screen was very pitted. New one is nice and
clean. Only gripe: it seems that the screen is a structural item. With the
new screen in, there's a creak from the right of the dash or the a-pillar,
don't know which. This wasn't there before, and it irritates me no end in
my otherwise noise-free car. The guy seemed to know what he was doing and
didn't look like he was trying to mangle my car. He cursed Audi for the
toughness of their glue, and had a h*ll of a job trying to get the mirror
stem off the screen.
A knowledgable independent fitter should be a nice alternative for the
dealer here, but make sure you watch him while he's working on your car. A
nice opportunity to look at the inside of the screen frame.
Good luck!
Tom.

I think animal testing is a terrible idea;
they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
