Re: quattro-digest V3 #1171
If she is 18, I believe there is a company called "Tracktime" that holds
high speed driver's education events at various race tracks across the
east coast. These are not race schools, but oriented toward safe hgih
speed driving (body/hand/eye orientation, proper brtaking techniques,
cornering techniques, emphasis on smooth driving rather than speed).
Programs combine classroom with track driving ; each student is paired
with an individual instructor. Can't find phone no. right now; let
me know if you are intesested and i will se if I can find it.
I know that the Porsche and BMW clubs hold race track driver's education
events as well, although they are ususally closed to just club members.
However, Allegheny Region of the Porsche Club of America holds events
at Nelson's Ledges, Mid-Ohio, and Watkins Glen that are open to all
comers. Can let you know '97 schedule when it is available (approx.
January).
Other, cheaper, alternative is autocrossing. In my opinion, this taught
me more about car control via active participation than the track events.
Look for an SCCA contact around you and see if they hold an autocross school.
Good Luck!

So last weekend was my daughter's 16th birthday. Sweet sixteen and... (I
don't want to know). Actually, I feel that having a teenage daughter is
kinda like fattening the sheep for the wolves...
In an effort to ensure the continuation of my genetic strain, I'd like to
send her to a high-performance driving school. Bondurant's web page lists a
teen course. Skip Barber is a lot more convenient for me here in
Connecticut. I'm sure there are other alternatives (my wife and I had a
blast last year at the Jean Paul Luc Ice Driving School in Steamboat). Has
anyone any direct personal experience with a great school that would work
for a non-racer sweet young thing? Looking for raves/pans/anecdotes and a
warm feeling that I'm not wasting my money. Cost is trivial compared to her
life. What's the best choice?
Thanks in Advance!
