rear speaker blues (or lack thereof)
Rear speakers not working - if you have that little earphone socket box on
the package shelf (center, just in front of the center brake light), there
are some very spindly contacts that get corroded, and then the speaker
doesn't work.
(This is an 86 5KCS - other models may or may not have this part.)
Open the box (held on by plastic tabs - careful), clean the contacts, try
again. Worked for me. Also found one dead speaker, one open wire between
earphone socket and speaker (what a mess!), but now it all works. Viva Vivaldi!
Incidentally, rear speakers are removed by going into the trunk and pushing
the center pins of the four speaker mounting studs upward - this lets the
four plastic tangs close up and pass up through the mounting holes in the
package shelf and the speakers - be careful and you won't break them so you
can use them again. You'll have to do the front ones by feel, cause ya can't
see 'em. Reverse to install.
