i have seen a tool designed specifically for locating vacuum leaks.
(can't remember where, but it was an automotive tool store or catalog)
it consists of a regulator that screws onto a PROPANE tank with a hose
going to a wand.
given the choice between releasing a cloud of atomized volatile fuel and
releasing a controlled stream of propane, i'll take the latter.
(this is not to say that i haven't used the the old douse-the-engine-with-
flammable-fluid-and-listen trick =8)
