RE: CT cameras on I95

Those gray boxes have a broad-scope low-power x-band radar to judge the
overall flow of traffic. They are only there to judge the overall speed on
I-95 so that when there is a dramatic drop in road speed (say 55 to 15), it
alerts them to a possible accident. This is supposed to improve response
time instead of waiting for some passing motorist to call it in. The radar
used is not accurate and specific enough to catch individual speeders.

I live with those,

>From the NY border to New Haven or just past the Passport is useless. All
those gray boxes and cameras set it off full time.

What are they for? The cameras etc. Well I've sometimes been told by the
nice lashings signs that 30 miles up the road that from exit X to X the
road is closed or under construction etc. That is the good part. I
believe in
Bridgeport the wizard behind the curtain has a view of that whole stretch
of I95 and they keep tabs on the daily accicdents and huge traffic problems
that occur every day.

Can or do they catch speeders this way? I really doubt it. They couldn't
possibly have such specific radar or take the time to see that one car or
cars that are doing 75mph amongst those who are doing 69mph. I just don't
believe it. They leave that to laser and whatever else they have.
