I've been trying to order one for quite some time, but they're backordered
four weeks and I'm moving soon - my address is currently only known for
about three weeks at a time.  

I'm not sure if you mean remote sensor (no) or remote display (yes).
Valentine does not offer any way to get around the up-coming
magnetically-sheilded windscreens.  They do have a "Concealed display kit"
that has the same display items as on the main unit, which you can mount
away from the unit (such as by your Tach).   With this unit attached, the
main unit remains dark constantly, instead of lighting up for everyone else
to see.  However, it still needs to be mounted line-of-sight with the road.

The concealed display kit is $70.  The Valentine 1 itself with Laser is
about $400.  Pricey unit.
