Your 82 coupe has K-Jetronic fuel injection with lambda control.
The control unit for the fuel injection is analog and there is
no "chip" to swap. The ignition system is controlled by a separate
control unit but it is not map-based and thus there is no chip.
The timing is still controlled via centrifugal and vacuum advance.
I am not sure what is "big bucks" to you, but the road to more power
is to improve the breathing of the engine. Free up the intake
and the exhaust and the engine will make more power. If you're willing
to go further with this then consider a cam change and porting/polishing
the head, larger displacement, etc. Note, though, that some of these
mods may trade low-end torque and driveability for high-end power.
Do your homework and plan the modifications carefully.
