It is brake dust. My 92' 100 V6 has the same problem. I hate cleaning the 
wheels on my car, they are the BBS RG style multi-spokes wheels :P It 
took an hour to clean those wheels. At least the A4 has five spokes 
pattern wheel. The factory pads have alot of brake dust.
