I've done it on 3 out of 4 Ladas that I owned. It's the ONLY way you can get 
this type of glass installed. Mike did not mention one thing: you do need an 
assistant to push on the glass from the outside (it hasta be a very LIGHT 
push indeed), while you'll be pulling the rope ends inside the car. Just 
take your time, it's a piece of cake job.

For lubrication I soaked the nylon cord that I've used in just plain soapy 
water.

I've also successefully done it on rear quater windows of a coupla 944's. 
For a serious aftermarket rear speaker install you need to remove inner 
panels. The leather is wrapped around and goes into the channel under the 
glass. You need to remove the side glass on a 944 in order to gain access. 
Now, that's dumb! Love my Audis.
