4KCSQ on the fritz! Help!

  Ok, I am driving around today, minding my own business, when all of the
sudden the battery light comes on, NONE of the gauges work (except for the
speedo), turn signals don't work......what is going on here? If JUSt the
battery light had came on, i would have pulled the alternator and had it
rebuilt, but what about everything else? I checked the belt....it's there,
checked the exciter wire.....it's connected......hmmmm I am confused.

 Seeing as how I am completely retarded when it comes to the electric
stuff, could someone please help?
