the s2 was the coupe with the il-5 turbo and quattro. it was based on the coupe to
keep costs down but they had a lot of trouble initially fitting the il-5 under the hood.
sms (germany) did the initial conversion. the ur-q was a lot more specialist in the sense
that it was initially designed for group b rallying and so had a lot more "tune-ability" built
into the configuration. it was also much stiffer than the s2. the s2 had a strengthened
coupe gearbox, a deeper front air-dam, uprated brakes and white dials. it's full name
was audi coupe 2.2 turbo quattro s2. it was modified in 1994 with a 6 speed box, and
stronger engine with overboost (230hp, 380nm torque). the suspension was stiffened
and the servotronic steering was deleted. 0-60 in 5.7.

the s2 is quicker than the ur-q 20v, quieter, more comfortable, ergonomic and roomier. it
has a better gear change (although the original 5-speed box was simply a strengthened coupe
box, rather than the unique unit in the ur-q).

the ur-q is quicker over a twisty road, more entertaining, stronger and has heaps more
charisma. it is probably also a better investment. it is assured of it's place in the annals
of automotive history as the first successful awd supercar.
