Audi service: in a good mood!

Hi all,

Yesterday was definately a good day for me: my mechanic friend came by to
deliver my Audi, and to tell me that the full service didn't cost me more
than consumables (oil, filters) and half an hour of labour. The only thing
he could find wrong was a perished vacuum hose. (phew!) My car drives like
new, and it cost me less than $100... great! He even replaced the indicator
light in the rear window heater switch, only to find that the red light
behind the symbol in the same switch had packed up. Hmmm... and then a guy
phoned that he was interested in buying my old Opel Kadett, which I had
tried to get rid of in vain for some time. He bought it on the spot for the
full asking price (not a lot, atmittedly). Now I can afford some more
goodies on my Audi...

BTW I've noticed a lot of Audis driving around with temporary export plates
here. Those are mostly for export to Poland and Russia. I've even had a few
guys in a Polish-registered car trying to buy my 80 (no dice, these guys
give *really* low prices) It seems that the exodus of good, used Audis has
started. Pretty soon I won't be able to afford the remaining ones, I
guess... saw a nice looking early 80s Coupe going east yesterday. Shame
these aren't considered classics here yet!

I've heard from several sources that 90% of the cars being imported used
from Germany are the cars the Germans won't buy themselves (i.e without
cat, service history or ex-crash damaged cars). So I'll better steer clear
of those too. Pity, because these were all I could afford in the way of a Q
or other fancy Audi.

Lastly, while leafing through the Dutch AutoTrader, I noticed a 1986 TQC
for sale at equiv $3900, and a 1987 QC for $5000. These *are* German
imports, but still pretty cheap IMO. Guess these aren't classics yet
either. Probably not suited for use as a daily driver for my kind of
mileage though. Especially seeing that I've *very* shallow pockets...

             I think animal testing is a terrible idea;
they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
