Importing Euro Spec - seen one.
Hi folks,
There was recently a 1991 BMW M3 Sport Evolution III for sale in the Boston
area. It was advertised in the DuPont Registry, and was going for $28K if I
remember correctly.
There were never any M3 Sport Evolutions sent to the US, so this car is
obviously "grey market" for lack of a better term. The ad stated the car
was registered, titled, and insured.
So the question is not "if" but "how". If anyone has the DuPont registry
with this ad, they should ring them up and ask them how they got the car here.
Perhaps it's easier if you are importing a later model of a car that was
sold here. Since the E30 M3 sold here for a few years, maybe there's a loophole
that makes it easier since the plain E30 M3 was already federalized.
Hello ur-quattro 20V!
PS: As far as insurance goes, a guy I know has an '84 or so 323i. His insurance
company doesn't have the 323i in their list of cars, so they insure it like
the most expensive 3-series from that year - a 325. No big deal.
